7/30

Dad moved to Recoup Care (Step down from Rehab) yesterday afternoon!!! Yay!!!! This is where we wanted him to go! He will have more therapies, which is exactly what he needs.
They didn't think he was ready for his trach to be removed, so it's still in. (He did pull it out Thursday night, but they were able to put it back in. The nurses said he is probably sore today) He is still pretty confused.

5:55 pm update
Boooooooooo. I hate to report the trach is NOT coming out today. His pulse ox dropped and he was having some issues coughing up secretions, so they have decided to leave it in for now.

I'm on lunch break and I just found out THE TRACH IS COMING OUT!!!! We are sooo excited.

Sunday 7/24

Its been a rough past few days. I haven't felt like blogging... Sorry! Dad is doing ok. He is still capped and has handled it well. He is so fidgety and is constantly pulling his covers off and picking at everything. He has to stay restrained, but that doesn't stop him from grabbing stuff. Mom was with him yesterday afternoon and he got really bad. He told the nurses to get out, then looked at mom and said get out now. He said he wanted a knife and just got very irate. When the nurse came to suction him, he put up a fight with her. She called the DR and he put him on some meds to calm him down. Luckily this kinda mellowed him out after awhile. The only downfall to this medicine, is now he will probably sleep all day today and then some!
This week will be hard. Mom is going back to work and I have class. Timing isn't the greatest, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Thursday 7/21

They capped Dad's trach off around 8 this morning. He has been tolerating well. He is still on oxygen. He has looked very confused this morning and has been trying to pull at everything.
He was trying to tell me something earlier, but I couldn't understand him. He is just whispering everything right now. He is still on the 6th floor in a step down unit from ICU.

Tuesday update

Dad has moved to a step down unit on the 6th floor of the hospital. He has slept the majority of the day and has been pretty spacey.

Monday 7/18

*6:30 pm
We don't have results from the ultrasound yet. Dad was very spacey and out of it this afternoon. This makes it hard on us. He wants to pull and pick on everything so we have to really watch him.

*12:00 update
I meant to update this earlier, but it's been crazy. I noticed this morning Dads right hand was swollen and looked blue. When his Dr came in he noticed it as well. He is afraid he may have a blood clot. He has a new picc line in his right arm. He scheduled an ultrasound and that should tell us more. He is staying in ICU for now. If anything he will move to a step down unit.

*8:30 am
I am sitting with Dad this morning. He is pretty fidgety, but fairly alert. He is off the Bp IV drip and his blood pressure looks good. Respiratory is doing better. I haven't seen any DRs yet this morning, but his nurse said he bets he will move to a step down unit today.
Dad has started watching the Turner classic movie channel. It cracks me up, cause he was never into the older movies and it's all he watches now! He doesn't even want to watch CNN or any other news! Lol
Also, some of you know this already and lots of you don't, but since it's finally official I thought I'd announce.......

We are moving to Arkansas!!!!!! =) (I had to block out my address for all my fans out there! Lol)
I am enrolled in Insurance class next week and will take my test after that! I'm both excited and nervous! I've asked Dad if he thinks I can do it and he tells me yes! I told him to hurry up and get better so he can teach me all about insurance!!! =)
If anyone can suggest any daycares/babysitters in Heber, I would love you forever! We are on waiting lists at two places and I'm kinda panicking!!!!

Sunday 7/17

Dad is still in ICU. He had a pretty good day. He is still on Bp iv drip and having some respiratory issues. They will probably do a scope tomorrow. They are concerned he has Pneumonia again. He was fairly alert today and we are thankful for that!

Saturday 7/16

*3:30 pm update
Mom and I have been here since around 1:30. Dad has been asleep the entire time. He is on 70% oxygen and still getting Bp meds. His pulse ox has dropped some as well. The lung DR just left and he said he may have pneumonia again. They are going to watch him and possibly do a scope in the next couple of days if he doesn't get any better.
Please say a lil prayer that Dad bounces back quickly. Sitting in ICU brings back sooo many memories. Hopefully we will get him stable and out on the floor soon!!

Dad is still in ICU. Mom, Caroline and I are sitting in his room with him right now. He is on 50% oxygen and he is on a blood pressure medicine iv drip to keep his blood pressure up. He is awake and we just turned on the tv for him. We asked him if he was in any pain and he shook his head no.
I will update later this afternoon when we come back for the 1 pm visit.
I wanted to share my morning picture I received!

Video

Here is a video of Dad during his Occupational Therapy on Wednesday.  He did really well for her!!!

Friday 7/15

*5:15 pm
(They didn't actually start until around 3:00 due to paperwork issues) Dr Erdem just came out to tell us all went well!!!! Dad will have to have another procedure, but he would like to wait for 6 months to do the next one. He should be moved to ICU in the next hour and will be there for at least 24 hours. He will either stay in ICU or move to a regular room in the hospital until Monday. They will revaluate him on Monday and we will go from there.
Thanks again for all of the prayers!!!!

*1:30 pm
They took Dad back around 1:20 pm. We were able to walk down with him and into his room to meet the dr. He said this should take a couple hours. Mom, Caroline and I are sitting in the waiting room outside of the lab.

Thursday 7/14

Procedure has been scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) at 1 pm. Please cross all fingers and toes that he is not bumped. We are ready to get this procedure behind us so we can get started on rehab. We did find out that he will have to have 1 to 2 more procedures after this one.

Procedure UPDATE

Ughhhhhh is all I can say right now..... Well the nicest thing I can say atleast!!!! Mom got a phone call about an hour ago to inform us that Dads procedure for tomorrow has been CANCELED!!!!! Evidently there were some scheduling issues or something like that.
Anyway...... He is going to try to squeeze dad in on Friday or next week. We shall see...........

Wednesday 7/13

Happy hump day!!!!! I just got to the hospital and Dad is sleeping. Hopefully he will wake up soon. He is doing very well with his therapies. Monday he had occupational therapy for 40 mins and yesterday they went for 53!!! Physical therapy said he sat on the side of the bed for 6-8 minutes by himself on Monday. They got him up on a bed yesterday that makes him work his legs. He had to stand and you could see his legs shaking! They are so proud of him and say he is progressing!!!
As far as his mental state.... He comes and goes. He is alert more often for us though. He doesn't always know who we are, but he follows all commands he is given. We have so many funny things to tell him when he is better. For instance... We will point to Mom and ask is she is his wife? Sometimes No, sometimes yes and sometimes she's his girlfriend! Lol!! Mom tells him she doesn't think she's up for dating again so he better hurry up and remember she is his wife! Ha!
His procedure with Dr. Erdem (hottie) is still scheduled for tomorrow at 1. Fingers crossed he doesn't get bumped!!!! We are ready to get this procedure behind us and get him to rehab!
On a sad note I took Gracie back to Memphis Monday. She is staying with Josh and my mother in law the next couple of weeks.

I am already missing her like crazy, but she is having a blast!!!!!
She is growing sooo fast! I just can't believe it!!

Friday 7/8

Dad and I are spending the day together today. This morning he was semi alert and winked at me a few times and mouthed "I love you" (really made me smile)!!! He is now sleeping so I am a little bored! Looks like it's time to catch up on words with friends and hanging with friends. Lol
I just got a call that his procedure has been rescheduled AGAIN! For now, it's on the 14th at 1 pm. Hopefully it won't change. We are ready to get this behind us and get him to rehab!
His infection in his stomach is healing and all is looking good. Not much else to report on.

We can't thank you all enough for everything!!!!! =)

Wednesday 7/6

I'm back!!!! Sorry for my absence!!! Gracie and I went to Tennessee to spend the weekend with her Daddy! We all 3 had a wonderful time! It was nice to be all together again!!! =)
Dad did great during speech and physical therapy this morning. He is following all commands!! They put his speaking valve in, but we weren't able to get him to talk. Hopefully soon!!!! He played catch with his physical therapist and kicked the ball for her some. He tires very easily. Now he is sitting in a cardiac chair beside me and we are watching CNN (imagine that!).

We are still on the 10th floor at Baptist. Dad was accepted to the Baptist "Recoup Care" (it's a step down from the Baptist Rehab), but we are still waiting for a room. Since he has MRSA and is in isolation, he has to have a private room. Until then, we will stay here.
His procedure has been changed to next Tuesday, the 12th. We aren't sure of the time yet, but I will keep everyone posted.
Thanks again for all the thoughts, prayers, phone calls, texts, cards, emails and on and on. It means so much to all of us. I told Dad when I was in Heber last week a lady at the post office and the bank (after they found out who I was) asked me how he was doing and I didn't know either one of them!!!! He smiled soooo big and said, "Really??!!!??". We just tell you how much it all means to us!!!!!
